Size & Fit

This is cut as a jacket, not as a top – there is room built in for a jumper underneath. Most customers take their usual size for a comfortable layering fit. If you want it fitted over a t-shirt only, and you sit at the smaller end of your usual size, the size below will give you a closer line. If you plan to wear it over chunky knits all season, size up.

Fit Tip – measure yourself before you chooseUse a soft tape measure on your body, not on a jacket you already own. Bust: around the fullest part of your chest, tape level across the back, snug but not pulling. Waist: around your natural waist, the narrowest point above your hips. Sleeve: from the bony point at the top of your shoulder, down a slightly bent arm, to your wrist bone. Write the three numbers down, then compare them to the size guide – and remember that a jacket needs a few inches more than your body measurement to close comfortably over a layer.

Frequently Asked Questions

How warm is it, and what season is it for?

It is a light-to-mid weight cotton jacket, not an insulated coat. It is at its best in spring and autumn, and through winter in mild climates when worn over a jumper. It will block wind and take a light shower, but it is not a waterproof or a snow jacket.

Should I size up if I want to wear a jumper underneath?

For a normal knit, no – the cut already allows for a layer. For thick cable knits or a hoodie, take one size up. If you are between sizes and plan to layer, go with the larger one.

Does the waist drawstring actually change the shape?

Yes. Pulled in, it creates a defined waist and a slightly bloused shape above it. Left loose, the jacket hangs straight in the classic field-jacket line. The cord sits inside so nothing shows on the outside either way.

Are the pockets real, or decorative?

All four are functional flap pockets. The chest pockets hold a phone or a passport; the hip pockets take keys, a wallet or your hands.

Can I wear it zipped and buttoned at the same time?

Yes, and that is the warmest way to wear it – the snap placket covers the zip and cuts the draught along the front seam. You can also zip only, or snap only, depending on how structured you want the front to look.

How should I wash it?

Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle with like colours, then hang it to dry rather than tumble drying. Cotton twill holds its shape and colour far better out of the dryer, and hanging it damp lets most of the creasing drop out on its own.
